Choosing the right motor
Not sure what you need? These are the questions we ask buyers first. Send us the answers and we'll suggest motors from our stock.
- Your boat. Its length, hull type and the maximum horsepower on its capacity plate.
- Shaft length. Measure from the top of the transom to the bottom of the hull: about 15" is a short shaft, 20" long and 25" extra-long.
- Two-stroke or four-stroke. Two-strokes are lighter and simpler; four-strokes are quieter and use less fuel, with no oil to mix.
- Controls. Whether you steer with a tiller or have remote steering and throttle at a console.
- How you'll use it. Fishing, cruising, towing or offshore running all point to different power ranges.
